Preventive medicine at the UT

If you have health problems or a specific question about a health problem, you can contact, as university staff, the prevention doctor .

The prevention doctor is responsible for the medical surveillance of staff.

The frequency of medical examinations is determined by the prevention doctor, taking into account the regulatory obligations.

Some staff must undergo special medical surveillance at least once a year:

  • Staff with disabilities,
  • Pregnant women,
  • Staff reinstated after sick leave or long-term leave,
  • Staff working in jobs with particular occupational hazards,
  • Staff suffering from particular pathologies as determined by the Prevention Doctor.

Health coverage in France

In France, every employee who receives a salary from their employer, and who has signed an employment contract, contributes to the national social system: for social security, for unemployment and for retirement. This has been the case since the first day of your employment contract, but you must register or update your situation with the social security system as soon as you start your professional activity.

The affiliation procedure can sometimes be lengthy, and it is strongly advised to arrive in France with insurance covering you for the first few months of your stay.

The body in charge of health insurance in France is the Primary Health Insurance Fund (CPAM). To join the social security system, i.e. to be reimbursed for medical expenses, you must contact the CPAM of your department of residence 37/41 (Indre-et-Loire/Loir-et-Cher) or CPAM Paris 75 depending on your situation.

Social security reimburses part of the costs of health care (doctors, medicines, surgical procedures). For more information on the reimbursement of expenses: https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/N418 (link in French)

It is often necessary to take out a "complementary" insurance policy, i.e. an insurance policy to be paid monthly, which will supplement and therefore better reimburse the costs of health care with different rates for glasses or dental care.
