Prepare and organize your research stay at the University of Tours

To prepare and carry out a research stay at the University of Tours as a researcher, postdoctoral student or international doctoral student, you must first benefit from an invitation into a research unit at University of Tours.

After acceptance by a host research unit at University if Tours, you must contact the Department of Research & Development and the Euraxess Service Centre/International Relations Office in order to define the legal framework of your hosting. The legal framework of your hosting will characterize the procedure to follow in order to apply for the appropriate visa at the French Embassy/Consulate in your residence country.

In order to prepare your stay with the Department of Research & Development and the Euraxess Service Centre/International Relations Office, we invite you to follow the procedure indicated below:


Alongside this process, if the host research unit is classified as a restricted regime zone (ZRR), you must first obtain the agreement of the University Defense Security Officer (FSD).

6 steps to prepare your research stay at the University of Tours

1. Gather the required documents (passport, letter of invitation from the host research unit, certificate(s) of funding for the stay, certificate of employment for tenured teacher-researchers, etc…).  

2. Complete this   form 

3. Send all your documents to the following email:  sejour.recherche@univ-tours.fr
Our services might ask you for additional documents about specific information you may bring to our attention.

4. Upon receipt of your form and documents, the Department of Research & Development and the Euraxess Service Centre/International Relations Office will define the legal framework stay according to your host research unit. Then, you will be contacted as soon as possible in order to prepare all the necessary formalities to enable your stay in our institution.

5. Concerning the legal framework of your stay, the Department of Research & Development can possibly make a research stay agreement you will have to sign incorporating the following references:
  • Signatories
  • Duration of the agreement
  • General terms and conditions of the Research at University of Tours
  • Clauses and liabilities of the host researcher at University of Tours
  • Legal protection and respect of intellectual property
  • Financial supports
6. After examination of your application for your research stay, the Euraxess Service Centre service will provide you with all the appropriate documents to be signed in order to prepare your formalities for your visa application. You will also benefit from support to find an accommodation, open a bank account, welcome the accompanying family, integrate into local life, etc…

Caution

  • Any incomplete file will not be processed by our services
  • A delay of 2 months must be planned between the receipt of all the information/documents and the start of the stay. Following the geopolitical situation in some countries, this delay can be longer.
  • The acceptation into a host unit research doesn’t mean you will automatically receive a hosting agreement by our institution. The request will be processed in accordance with the framework set by the University of Tours based on your funding, your status and the duration of the planned stay.


If you are not allowed to apply for a visa purpose “Passeport Talent-Chercheur”, the University of Tours will guide you to the appropriate visa application.

  • During the instruction phase by our services, you should not request an appointment with the visa services at the French Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence.
