The University of Tours develops its research activity in its 33 laboratories spread over 5 major fields of expertise:

The university’s research activities are organized through close-working partnerships with other universities located nearby, with companies from the region and with major French research bodies such as the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM - Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale), the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA - Institut National de Recherche Agronomique) and the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA - Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique).

For quite a number of years now, the university has been successfully consolidating its research around subjects of excellence: renascence, infectiology, imaging and the brain, insect biology, materials, cities and territories. Henceforth, it wishes to develop new research subjects that focus, firstly on alimentation and, secondly on biopharmaceuticals.
