UE 9.4 : Induction and control of the immune response

Anti-infectious immune responses and vaccination strategies.
  • Methodological and technical skills acquired
The aim of this module is to bring theoretical and practical knowledge on antigen presenting cells and targeting strategies in vaccine development.

Theoretical courses : 22 h
• Workshop on dendritic cells sorting (Miltenyi)
• Introductory course to flow cytometry (Miltenyi)
• General presentation on dendritic cells
• Dendritic cells and antigen presentation
• Plasmacytoid dendritic cells
• Immunity of the newborn. Impact of the micro-environment on the nature and function of dendritic cells
• Granulocytes and macrophages as the first line of defense in avian diseases. Role of defensins and chemokines in the induction of the immune response in the context of vaccine development.
• Interaction between domestic animals dendritic cells and viruses
• Macrophages, dendritic cells and leshmania seen from the parasite point of view.
• Cholera toxin and mucosal dendritic cells

Practical courses : 8 h
  • Lymphocyte purification from murine spleens, staining and FACS analyses
  • Critical analysis of English written scientific publications in relation with programs of UE 9.1, 9.2, 9.4, 9.6, 9.7, 9.8 et 9.9
