LMD system

You are here : ENGLISH > Admissions & Courses > Organisation of studies > LMD system

The studies are organized into 3 levels (or grades):
- Bachelor’s degree (Licence - 3 years of study): corresponding to 6 semesters and validated by obtaining 180 ECTS credits.
- Master’s degree (2 years of study after the Bachelor’s degree): corresponding to 4 semesters and validated by obtaining 120 ECTS credits.
- Doctorate (Ph.D.): 3 years of study after the Master’s degree

  • The Bachelor’s degree (Licence)
The Bachelor’s degree is a diploma made in three years; that is to say in 6 semesters and 180 validated ECTS credits (30 credits a semester).
At the end of the three years of study, the student has gained a base of knowledge and skills both disciplinary, linguistic (ability to speak at least one foreign language), cross-disciplinary and professional.

The specialization comes gradually thanks to theoretical, methodological and cross-disciplinary knowledge.

All the Bachelor’s degrees are grouped together into four teaching units:
- Arts, literature and languages
- Law, economy and management
- Human and social sciences
- Technology and health sciences

The Bachelor’s degrees (Licence) are conceived to offer students links between different courses. Links are also possible between the different units. Students from other schools (preparatory courses, BTS…) can be welcomed during the year.

  • The professional Bachelor’s degree (Licence)
The professional Bachelor’s degree (Licence) is awarded, after one year of study, to students who have already two validated years of higher education. The professional Bachelor’s degree (Licence) is awarded in an Institute of Technology or in a university.
The professional Bachelor’s (Licence) degree corresponds to the last 60 credits of a Bachelor’s degree. That is to say that it is a third year of study, after 120 validated credits (4 semesters) in a different or equivalent course (preparatory courses, BTS…) and a selection upon application, which allows students to have a professionalization in order to get ready for a job.

These courses come from a partnership between universities, companies and businesses. Teaching is done by teachers from the university and practicing professionals from the business world.

The professional Bachelor’s degree (Licence) gives a very good level of qualification and certifies the student to find a job quickly.
The University offers about thirty professional Bachelor’s degrees (Licences) in all disciplines.

  • The Master’s degree
The Master’s degree corresponds to 10 semesters and gives 300 ECTS credits, including the Bachelor’s (Licence) degree. The course is made in two years, Master’s degree 1 and Master’s degree 2. There are two kinds of courses: one with a research purpose, which allows students to apply for a doctorate, and one with a professional purpose, in order to get ready for a job.

The Master’s degree is made of theoretical, methodological and professional courses, internships and/or introduction to research.

Students must speak at least one foreign language in order to get his/her diploma.
The four teaching units in the Master’s degree are the same as those in the Bachelor’s degree. That is to say:
- Arts, literature and languages
- Law, economy and management
- Human and social sciences
- Technology and health sciences
